Nassau County

Nassau County was established in 1824 and named after the Duchy of Nassau in Germany, reflecting the European influences that shaped early Florida history. Located in the northeastern corner of the state, it shares a border with Georgia and boasts a rich maritime past. The county’s crown jewel is Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, a historic seaport that has flown the flags of eight different nations—the only city in the U.S. to do so. Known as the “Isle of 8 Flags,” Fernandina Beach was once a center of piracy, smuggling, and international trade. The area’s deepwater port and railway connections helped drive economic growth throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, and much of its Victorian-era architecture still stands today.

Over the years, Nassau County has evolved from a coastal trade hub into one of the fastest-growing regions in Northeast Florida. With a strong emphasis on preserving its historic charm and natural landscapes, the county offers a unique blend of old Florida character and modern-day living.
